While you’ve been sleeping, reports that the Blues are to sign Brazilian playmaker Fernandinho have gathered pace.

According to this morning’s Daily Mail a deal for the 27-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk star is near completion.

“Reports suggest the Brazilian midfielder will move to the Etihad for £23million,” writes Simon Jones.

“City may also move for Toluca's Diego Novaretti. The 27-year-old Argentine defender, who has a dual Italian passport, is available on a free transfer. The 6ft 5in 'El Flaco' (Skinny) turned down a move to Blackburn in 2011.”

While it’s easy to get carried away with speculation, remember we at the club are your first port of call for official confirmation of any transfers this summer.

Elsewhere, David Platt has told the press there is no doubt City will fight to the end of this current campaign.

“Platt insists Manchester City will not ease up in their remaining Premier League games, even if they secure second place,” reports Sky Sports News.

“With a six-point advantage over third-placed Chelsea, City are on track to clinch the runners-up spot, and the assistant boss claims the former champions are focused on winning games.

“City face Wigan in the FA Cup final on May 11, with league games against Swansea and West Brom before the cup tie.”

Ending on a cheery note, Bleacher Report have compiled a list of reasons why they feel City will excel in the Champions League next season.
