North Korea v Nigeria in World Cup Final

A slightly alternative World Cup final took place in South Manchester last week, with some unexpected finalists.

Primary schools from the area around Platt Lane provided thirty two teams to take part in a special ‘World Cup Tournament’ at the complex. Each school represented a different world cup team in the tournament, and produced a display about the country they were playing for.

The final was a closely fought contest between North Korea and Nigeria with both teams coming from St John’s Primary School.  North Korea were the eventual winners.

For those that went out of the tournament early was a separate competition. They competed for the ‘Plate’ trophy, eventually won by the Divine Mercy School which sits on Blue Moon Way on the old Maine Road site.

Congratulations to all the teams that took part. After today’s result it doesn’t look like we’ll see a North Korea v Nigeria final happening in this World Cup!
