The Blue Moon rose over Portland last week, and as a thank you for Oregon’s hospitality Manchester City put Kells Bar into the “Heart of the City”.
The City squad, together with the coaching staff and backroom team, popped into Kells after their friendly at Merlo Field last weekend. Owner Gerard McAleese, along with his wife Lucille, is pictured receiving the Heart of the City plaque from Shay Given.
The Irish bar in downtown Portland is famous for welcoming soccer fans of all shades when the Timbers play at home, with last Saturday being no different. Local Blues who regularly meet up at the venue to watch their team and those who had travelled across the world mingled with home fans until the small hours.
Kells joins several other bars that sport the Blue Moon plaque all over the world, including The Bombardier in Paris, Cheers Bar in Sydney, the NRG bar in Abu Dhabi and the Mad Hatter in New York. We’ll be shouting out for more ideas as to where the next recipient should be - keep checking mcfc.co.uk for details!
