Attillio Lombardo has joined the Blues backroom staff.
The former Italian international is no stranger to these shores having played for Crystal Palace in the late 1990s.
However, he played the bulk of his career at Sampdoria where he made more than 200 starts for the club many of them alongside Roberto Mancini.
Lombardo, now 44, also played under former City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson at Lazio and is on the Tour to the USA which is currently based in Portland and next week moves to New York for tournament games against Sporting Lisbon and Red Bulls.
He completes Mancini’s coaching set up following the summer arrival of former England star David Platt.
Lombardo has spent his time since quitting playing working with young players at Sampdoria and then in full control of Swiss side FC Chiasso.
“It is great that Attillio has come to join us,” declared the manager.
“He was a top class player and he will bring lots of experience and a winning mentality to the group. I know he is excited at being at Manchester City and I know that he loves the English game from his time in London.”
Lombardo, who will also scout the opposition, will fit into a coaching pyramid that includes former Blues player Brian Kidd as Mancini’s assistant.
