New dad Vincent Kompany has got used to seeing fresh faces coming through the door at the Carrington HQ so some more new signings are not going to faze him.

The Belgian international, whose daughter was born this summer, is happy to face yet more competition for places in Roberto Mancini’s starting line up.

“There have been a lot of players come in here since I arrived, so I am getting used to it,” he declared whilst attending the opening of a pitch on the roof of an elementary school in Spanish Harlem, New York City.

Competition is what drives a club on and it is to be expected if we are to get to where we want to

"No one is frightened of battling for a place."

“The tour has been successful so far both on and off the pitch and we are looking forward to the games this weekend – though it promises to be hot for the second one.”

Kompany and teammates Shay Given, Patrick VieiraVladimir Weiss and Pablo Zabaleta were amongst those at ‘P.S. 72’ to open the new sky high playing space in the searing summer heat in New York centre.

The Belgian, a tireless worker for charity himself (catch his videos) was impressed with what he saw.

“There were smiles on all the faces of the children and that is the most important thing,” he said. “It is great that we as a club have been able to assist and to bring joy to everyone at the school, not just today but for a long time to come.”

Later it was back to the training field in 95degree heat for Kompany and  co and the man who has become a firm favourite with the fans for his attitude and application in the Blues’ cause picked up the challenge supplied by the arrival of Yaya Toure and Jerome Boateng and the return to fitness of Joleon Lescott.

“I played both in midfield and also central defence last season and I have no preference where I am used so long as I am involved,” he concluded. “This promises to be a very exciting season for the club and all the players can’t wait for it to begin.”
