Alex Tchuimeni-Nimely is far from overawed by the illustrious company he is keeping on City’s pre-season tour of the USA.
The 19-year-old striker made his first appearance for the senior side as a substitute at Burnley in April, but he’s not resting on his laurels as he looks to hone his skills alongside some world-famous team mates.
He impressed in his second-half display against Portland Timbers last Saturday, a true mix-and-match that saw most of the squad get their first match action after two weeks of training.
“The tour is a great experience for me,” says Alex, “and I am really grateful that the management chose me to come along. Training with such great players is a privilege and I am enjoying it so much.
“I feel have made massive improvements, every day that I go out to train with players like Adebayor or Tevez I learn from them. The coaches all the staff here are always full advice too, so it's good for me.
“I’m not intimidated by the kinds of players we have, it's all part of the learning process for me. The older guys are very encouraging to all the younger players, and we all enjoy it even more because of that.
“When I came over the squad last season I was very surprised how the rest of the squad accepted me, and as well as encouraging me it helped motivate me. That has to be good.”
One familiar face who has joined Alex in the senior squad is John Guidetti, the pair played alongside each other at the City Academy and Alex thinks his Swedish team mate helps bring the best out of them both.
“It's good to have competition from John. It's always been there since we played together at the Academy. He's such a good player and it's good for the team that he’s here, all the players have got to compete with the best if they want to be the best.
“I'm not going to put myself under pressure,” he adds. “I'm going to keep working hard. I loved my time on the pitch at Burnley because it was such a great experience and I hope I get more chances this season.”
