We had a nice surprise in the latest training session at the Home Depot centre when the chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak turned up to say hello.
He looked very chilled out and relaxed and really just wanted to congratulate us on last season’s achievements and wish us well for the one coming up. It was filmed so I guess it will be in one of the training videos coming your way from Bailey’s mob.
Khaldoon did mention to a couple of the lads that the next step is to win the league! But that’s great because that is exactly what all the lads want as well. He is ambitious for the club and so are we.
We don’t see and awful lot of the chairman. He came in before a few games last season and every time he visited with us we seemed to play better.
I think he gives us a bit of a lift. Everyone wants to impress the boss don’t they?
To be fair his memory is really good especially of individual performances and moments that he is able to reel off. He is a down to earth guy to whom the players can relate.
He watched us do a bit of work but he wasn’t at the latest session which was incredibly hard. There was ball work and then running, running, running. I think the boss wanted us to earn our afternoon off.
You don’t enjoy the actual running but you do get a buzz of completing the session when it is that hard. Everyone was putting in 100 per cent and will feel it for a while afterwards.
The lads will all go their separate ways in their time off. James Milner and a few others will go off for a game of golf (too boring for me) a few will go shopping probably led by SWP and NDJ and others will just chill out by the pool or go out for a nice meal.
I am going to head down to Amir Khan’s training camp in LA. He has a fight in Las Vegas on 23 July and I have been invited down to watch him work.
There is one thing for sure; I will not be volunteering for any gym work and I’d better not get in the ring with Amir because if I lamp him the fight might be off!
We have a double session to look forward to tomorrow and then we are off to San Francisco for our first game. That will get everyone excited and I am sure the boss will use most of the squad during this trip.
Finally there has been a bit of talk – mainly from Kompany – about the moustache that I am sporting at the moment. It is if the thin variety and much better and neater than Wrighty’s effort. There is also a trend for a bit of beard growing now Nige has got rid of his! We might have a bit of a competition this season to see who can grow the best one.
See you later.
