City Ladies are back in league action this weekend as Watford visit the Regional Athletics Arena.

On a high following progress into the 4th Round of the FA Cup, the Blues will be looking to close the gap on Watford in what is sure to be a close game.

Watford Ladies F.C. was formed in 1970, following a number of letters received by Watford F.C. to start a ladies football team from within the supporters club.

They won promotion in 2003 to the Southern Division and finished fifth in its first season of top flight football in 2004. The team narrowly escaped relegation in 2005 and in 2006 just lost out on promotion, finishing in third place.

A change of management in 2006 saw the appointment of Sian Williams, the former Arsenal, Charlton and England player as manager, who along with coach Matt Ward took the team to new heights by gaining promotion to the National Division, having won the Southern Division title by 10 points and only losing three games all season.

The last meeting with City resulted in a hard fought 1-1 draw, with Sarah Danby netting the Blues’ equaliser with a top draw finish and contender for MCLFC goal of the season.

Watford also progressed into the 4th Round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 away victory at Northern Division Derby County. The Hornets currently occupy second position in the National Premier League, looking to keep in touch with leaders Sunderland, whom they currently trail by 2 points having played a game more.

It’s a somewhat fragmented National Division programme this weekend, with County Cup and League Cup fixtures to be caught up with, meaning only two league fixtures take place. In the Premier League Cup, favourites and holders Sunderland face Cardiff while Leeds United face FA Cup giantkilling victims Charlton Athletic.

The kick off will be 2pm at the Regional Athletic Arena, Gate 13, M11 3FF. Adults £2, MCFC Season Tickets holders £1, Under 16's FREE. All match action can be followed on @MCLFC twitter feed.
