Sunday will see City Ladies begin the defence of their Manchester FA Women's Cup in association with Robinson's Brewery.

City are the current holders of the trophy and enter the competition at the Quarter Final stage. The competition has had one round prior to this with the only result seeing Manchester Rovers F.C. in a 11-0 thrashing at the hands of City of Manchester F.C.

Middleton Athletic are the opponents at the Regional this Sunday, City last faced Middleton in the Semi-Final of last season's competition in January, and on that occasion City ran out 11-0 winners on the day.

It will be a chance for City to fully utilise their squad with a number of changes expected to be seen this weekend.

Leigh Wood gives his thoughts on the upcoming Quarter Final, "I'm really looking forward to Sunday’s game as it's the first match in the start of our defence of the County Cup. The competition gives me the chance to have a good look at the young talent that we have coming through the ranks. Our reserve team have had a terrific season so far and I'm really excited at seeing those that have made it into the 24 player squad play. We have gone for a good blend of youth and experience, having said that I think we only have one player over the age of 21 in the squad.

The game will be a good test. We played Middleton last season and know them to be a hard working team who will keep playing right to the final whistle. If we play to our potential however we feel we can make it through to the next round".
