After the disappointment of exiting the FA Cup last week City Ladies look to put things right as they travel to Cardiff this Sunday.
Cardiff also went out of the FA Cup on Sunday losing 3-1 to WSL Runners up and FA Cup holders Birmingham.
Founded in 1975 as Llanedeyrn Ladies Football Club after a local charity match. After a few years in the South West League it wasn’t until 1981 that the club decided to change its name to Cardiff.
Cardiff currently sit in 8th place in the National Division taking 8 points from their first 9 matches, having won only one of their last 6 in all competitions. Last season they also finished 8th in their first season back in the National Division since they were relegated back in 2007/08 after spending two seasons in the top flight of women’s football.
Leigh Wood commented this week after training:
“This week match against Cardiff City Ladies will be our first time we have ever faced them. After our loss to Sunderland last time out we have to make sure that we compete and win our individual battles all over the pitch. Cardiff are a team that don't concede many goals, so we know that we will have to move the ball with a good tempo and purpose to break them down and create chances.
If we can keep our concentration levels high and restrict them from making too many chances, we will hopefully get the positive result we are looking for.”
City Ladies kick off against Cardiff at 2pm at the Cardiff Athletics Stadium CF11 8AZ. For match and kick off updates please check Twitter @MCLFC. Full time results will be on the website www.mclfc.com & facebook/mclfcofficial.
City Ladies are also in action Thursday night as they play in their third consecutive Manchester FA Cup Final at Abbey Hey FC, with a 7.30pm kick off.
