There’s an extra incentive to get down to Sport City early this Sunday as Manchester City’s Ladies take on Derby County in a top-of-the-table clash in the F.A. Women’s Northern Premier League.
The ladies took on Preston North End WFC at the Regional Athletics Arena last weekend and ran out 2-0 winners, with goals from Carly Bayley and a 35 yard screamer from Krystal Johnson.
It was a comfortable victory for the team that are sitting pretty at the top of the league, with manager Leigh Wood being forced into fielding six new faces in the squad after an injury crisis. However, Wood is all too aware of the threat that the visiting league rivals pose, but remain confident that City can pull off a result.
“It will be the 2nd time in 3 weeks that we have played Derby, losing to a 90th minute goal last time out,” Wood said. “Since then Derby have drawn against Preston and lost to Newcastle. We have only played the one game, beating Preston 2-0.
“We know that Derby will try and turn our defence with long balls into the channels and hope that we make mistakes. We can take great encouragement from last time we played them as we dominated the game possession wise but only managed to create half a dozen chances. If we can have a better end product as we did last Sunday against Preston, I see no reason why we can’t come away with a positive result.”
Kick-off is at 2pm. Entrance is only £1 for adults on production of a City match ticket/season card and under-16s can watch for free.
