Four of City’s Premier League 4Sport table tennis stars recently travelled to Bolton to compete in the North West regional tournament.
A total of seven Premier League clubs attended the event and the day was a great advert for the PL4S scheme.
The young people representing City were Sophie Shone, Rebecca Reade, Luke Gannon, Austin Breaky, Dion Dunn and Tony Aguybi, all from the East Manchester area. The players have all attended Manchester City’s Premier League 4Sport sessions regularly to be selected for this competition. Luke said “I have had a great day playing against all other Premier League clubs, I only lost one match so now I’m keen to keep practising and play in more tournaments.”
The team finished in third place and gained some valuable experience. In the last game of the day City took on Stoke and won, echoing the victories from both Saturday and Tuesday.
Lee Mannion, Manchester City’s Premier League 4Sport coordinator was very impressed with his team’s performance: “I thought our team played very well despite their young age. Hopefully the experience gained will help them in future competitions.”
The next regional competition will be hosted at CITC’s new home, Manchester Tennis and Football Centre.
