Liam Chivas, 6, and Jack Anderson, 5, recently enjoyed a once in a lifetime experience when they walked onto the pitch as City mascots with their football idols Micah Richards and newcomer Fernando.
Both young supporters, lucky recruits from Manchester City’s North East Scotland Supporters Club, were given this rare opportunity by Manchester City during their pre-season tour of Scotland in July.
City, the current Premier League Champions, wanted to say thank you to the Supporters Club for all of their hard work and dedication throughout the year and thought making the two boys’ dreams come true was the perfect way to show their gratitude.
As City mascots, Liam and Jack were able to enjoy a full day of football antics, including viewing the Premier League trophy up close, playing on a professional pitch (even scoring a few goals!) and walking alongside two of City’s star players as they passed through the tunnel and onto the pitch in their very own personalised City kit.
Liam, the City mascot for their game against Dundee on 13 July, proudly walked onto the field with one of City’s newest signings, Fernando, who was more than willing to show him all the ropes.
Commenting on her son’s experience, Judith Taylor, Liam’s mum, said: "He had a fantastic day. Liam told me that Fernando showed him where to go and what to do every step of the way and he can’t wait to do it again!
"Gael Clichy, who sat behind him during the game, also signed his programme and he hasn’t stopped talking about it yet.
"We are both very grateful to City for such a wonderful and unforgettable day."
One week later, it was Jack’s turn to be a City mascot for the Club’s game against Hearts. He lined up next to Micah Richards, the captain for the match, and confidently stepped onto the pitch to fulfil his important role.
"Jack had an incredible day and City gave him plenty of memories to go home with," explained Gavin Anderson, Jack’s dad.
"Jack said his favourite moment was definitely when Alvaro Negredo gave him his match shirt, though he does love his new City kit too. His mum has been trying to wash it for the last 3 days without any joy.
"Jack and I would just like to thank everyone involved at City for making his dream come true."
Manchester City enjoys working alongside its supporters clubs across the UK. Recognising the great effort the clubs put in each and every year is always a priority for City and providing once in a lifetime opportunities for all of their young fans, like Liam and Jack, is the least the Club can do to say thank you.
