City fans might be interested in a new play that is running this week at Pure:Funktion at the Printworks, Manchester.
Presented by South Manchester-based Monkeywood Studios, 'Maine Road' is set in 2003, at the time when the blues were playing their last few games at the hallowed stadium before it was bulldozed. The story follows Leo, a teenager whose world is collapsing just like his beloved ground.
Writer Sarah McDonald Hughes explains the inspiration behind the story,
'I'm really interested in the idea that places can habve real meaning and impact on peoples' lives. I live near what was the Maine Road stadium in Moss Side and it's amazing how much of a legacy of the ground is still there.'
