New City groundsharing partners Hyde FC are going back to the future, and club secretary Tony Beard admits he couldn't be happier.

The Blues have rekindled old friendships by embarking on the unique three-year agreement with their neighbours that begins with Saturday's friendly for the Elite Under-21s.

City will play their reserve games at an improved Ewen Fields once more this season, evoking memories of the association that stood before a switch to the Regional Athletics Arena.

Beard recalled: "It used to be a great atmosphere. There's a strong City following in Hyde and Denton, so we built the crowds up quite well. I think City enjoyed playing here.

"There is a strong relationship between Hyde and City. I've known Bernard Halford a long time, for instance, and Garry Cook always said he'd help us as much as he could.

"It's great for Hyde that we've now got City's support. We might even be able to have a couple of loan players! We had Rob Hulse here once when he was with Crewe."

Hyde have delved even further back for their new strip. The club will celebrate their 125th anniversary by mirroring their original colours with white shirt and navy blue shorts.

Change strip will be pale blue, but Beard added: "The colour changes are nothing to do with City. We had mock-up shirts last April, well before any partnership talks began."
