Shaun Wright-Phillips, Joe Hart and Adam Johnson are all hoping to take part in England’s friendly against Mexico on Monday evening as competition for the final 23-man squad intensifies.
With Fabio Capello naming his squad at the end of the month, the City trio will be eager to impress the England boss at Wembley and earn a ticket to the 2010 World Cup.
All three could play some part against Mexico and will also hope to be involved in the final warm-up game against Japan in Graz on May 30.
Gareth Barry is still undergoing intensive treatment on his damaged ankle and didn’t travel with the provisional 30-man squad.
The group have been altitude training at Irdning in the Austrian Alps this week as part of their preparations for South Africa and were keen to show their support for the latest Show Racism the Red Card campaign.
The anti-racist charity was established in January 1996 and uses top footballers to help educate and combat racism through a series of organised campaigns and events.
