Blue Moon Rising a hit in Abu Dhabi

City legend Mike Summerbee joined hundreds of fans at the Abu Dhabi premiere of Blue Moon Rising.
The Club Ambassador, spent the weekend in Abu Dhabi along with the five fans from the Manchester area featured in the movie.
At the premiere at Marina Mall Cinestar, they met the local winners of the Manchester City UAE Superfan Search who won VIP invites to the event along with bundles of merchandise.
“I have met City fans from at least ten countries at the film premiere – it’s quite amazing just how many people in Abu Dhabi are now supporting the Club,” said Summerbee, who won both the league title and FA Cup with City in the late 1960s.
“You see the five Manchester lads who are the stars of the film mixing and having a laugh and a joke with the local supporters and it brings a big smile to your face. We are all so proud to be part of a club that is now set up to achieve big things.”
The five winners of the UAE City Superfan search were:
Saleh Hasan Badhafari (Abu Dhabi). The 44-year-old Emirati and his two sons are ardent fans of Al Jazira FC in Abu Dhabi and have taken that same passion to supporting City following the Club’s new ownership. They both wore kandoras in Manchester City sky blue that were specially made for the event.
Jane Slater (Abu Dhabi): Jane sat on her grandfather’s shoulders and watched City bring home the FA Cup in 1956 and has been a loyal supporter ever since.
Mohamed Bhatti and son Shoayb (Dubai): At the age of six Mohamed earned money outside City’s stadium cleaning cars so he could go and see games. Now living in Dubai, Mohamed and his son never miss watching a City match.
Darren Ball (Abu Dhabi): The chairman of the UAE Manchester City Supporters Club is a lifelong fan who previously created the Supporters Club in New York.
Saleh Hasan Badhafari said: “In Abu Dhabi we now see Manchester City as our club to support. To have fans coming to visit from Manchester is wonderful and it’s great to get to know them and tell them about the City support here in the UAE.

Following the film premiere, Manchester City treated supporters to a BBQ party and football competitions on the lawns of Emirates Palace hotel.
Moonchester – the official mascot of the club – flew in for the film premiere and party and entertained the growing number of young City fans in the country.
Blue Moon Rising will be available in England on DVD for Christmas.
