Any City fans travelling to Salzburg for next week’s Europa League opener are reminded that Vuvuzelas are banned from all Uefa competitions this season.
That includes all the Europa home games at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Gianni Infantino, Uefa General Secretary, has written to all clubs explaining the decision:
‘In the specific context of South Africa, the Vuvuzela can add a touch of local flavour and folklore, however their widespread use would not be appropriate in Europe where the negative disturbance caused (i.e.loud background noise) would be emphasised.
‘The magic of football consists in the two-way exchange of emotions between the field and the stands, where the public can transmit a full range of feelings to the players.
‘The continuous and monotonous drone of Vuvuzelas would completely change the atmosphere, drowning supporter emotions and detracting from the experience of the game.’
