Dont give car thieves an easy ride

  • 13 January 2011 16:06

Thieves will take advantage of any opportunity that presents an easy steal. When supporters leave their cars to go and watch the match they often leave valuables out on display making it easy for criminals to smash and grab their property.

Police officers have stepped up patrols in hotspot areas on match days but are warning owners of cars that they need to remove anything of value such as sat navs, iPods, clothes and money from view.

Inspector Alan Clitherow said: “When so many vehicles are parked in a concentrated area on match days it makes it very easy for criminals to take advantage of any opportunities they have to steal.

“While local neighbourhood officers are doing everything they can to track down offenders and stop vehicle crime from happening, we ask the fans to do their bin to help prevent crime by looking after their belongings.

“Parking in well lit area or match day car parks is also advised.”

If you have any information about a crime that you wish to report anonymously you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
