Mario Balotelli and Patrick Vieira visited St Ann’s Hospice in Heald Green to promote a new volunteering drive.
Both players spent time with patients and relatives last week and joined volunteers Shirley Stephens and Irene Ridings to help serve in the hospice’s coffee shop before taking part in a ward tea round to highlight the invaluable contribution made to St Ann’s and other charities by unpaid volunteers.
St Ann’s is one of City FC’s five nominated charities of the year and as part of the club’s CITC Giving project - the charitable giving arm of the club’s CSR strategy - City have donated £25,000 to fund the purchase of a new vehicle which will be adapted to serve as a non-emergency ambulance for patient transportation.
Throughout 2011 St Ann’s is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a range of fundraising events and projects, including a call to arms to all the charity’s supporters to take part in a huge co-ordinated street collection across Greater Manchester on May 17.
