After the disappointment of losing away to Sunderland, Roberto Mancini’s men bounced back with a win over Norwich, displaying the battling qualities which clinched the Premier League crown last season.

Playing the second half with ten men is no mean feat, particularly in the middle of the festive period where City play four league games in eleven days.

Despite being a man down, the team continued to press for goals and though the travelling support may have preferred a more comfortable score-line, they will have been pleased with the effort of the players and the three points they earned.

Returning to the Etihad Stadium to face Stoke City, the manager will be expecting another tough test against a side who are unbeaten in their last ten games. Stoke also boast the best defensive record in the league, despite the three goals they conceded against Southampton on Saturday.

Recent history points in Manchester City’s favour, though. Stoke have only visited the Etihad on Premier League business on four previous occasions. All of which went in favour of the home team.

Stoke have yet to even score away to the Blues with a combined score of 11-0 over the four games. Three of those matches have finished 3-0, a score-line which is priced at 7-1 with Paddy Power. Add in Sergio Aguero to score first in a 3-0 win and the price rises to 20/1.

Aguero scored twice in this fixture last season with Carlos Tevez scoring twice the season before. The multiple goal-scoring doesn’t end there with former striker Robinho scoring a hat-trick against Stoke back in 2008.

The problem with the Blues is picking which striker to back. Edin Dzeko scored a brace against Norwich and is 4/1 to score two or more against Stoke. He’s 4/1 to score first and evens to score anytime.

In the same markets Aguero and Tevez are identically priced at 16/5 to score two or more goals, 7/2 to score first and 5/6 to score anytime.

If recent history holds true then Manchester City to keep a clean sheet at 8/11 and -2 goals at 21/10 will be bets worth backing.
