Well done Manchester! More than 6,000 of you donned running gear or fancy dress to enjoy the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in glorious Sunday sunshine.

A record 1million-plus runners in hundreds of events nationwide included no fewer than 6,230 here in one of the 17 "flagship" cities.

Many runners signed up to support Shoot For The Moon - the club's exciting partnership with Sport Relief - and joined "Team Manchester City", while City in the Community staff ran a range of fun activities along the route.

Runner Vicky Clarke, 16 said: “What an amazing event – I’ve had so much fun today but more importantly I feel like I’ve made a real difference to Sport Relief by getting sponsored – I’ve seen a few famous faces too. Not bad for a Sunday morning!”

Fresh from his "Week of Hell" challenge, comic John Bishop did a mile to complete his extraordinary efforts for Sport Relief. Others joining in to celebrate the UK’s biggest year of sport included Karen Bryson, Anthony Cotton, Nikki Sanderson, Andrew Sheriden and Chris Ashton.

CITC Managing Director Sarah Lynch, pictured right with fellow team members Deborah Todd (left) and Sarah Wilkinson, said: "It was great fun raising money for Shoot For The Moon and great to know it will all go to vulnerable young people and their families in Manchester."

Celebrity Miler Nikki Sanderson said, “I’ve been so inspired to see thousands of people, of all ages and abilities, supporting Sport Relief today."

The Sport Relief 2012 total has passed the £52million mark with more still coming in. Money raised will be spent by Comic Relief to help some of the most vulnerable people in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.

But that was only the start for Giving Week at City. We will be announcing partnerships with two more local charities, and there will be news on how a party of City staff will tackle Kilimanjaro.

It all culminates at the City-Sunderland game on Saturday. There will be lots of fundraising activities in and around the ground, the players will don special Shoot for the Moon t-shirts while warming up and fans who donated £250 online will see their names around the pitchside LED boards.
