Today marks the start of Sport Relief Weekend, with the entire nation coming together to raise cash to help change lives at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
This season, Manchester City has launched an exciting new partnership with Sport Relief called Shoot for the Moon. Today we’re kicking off our special Giving Week for Shoot for the Moon, with players, fans and staff taking part in all sorts of fundraising activities. All the money raised will be going to help vulnerable young people and families across Manchester.
There'll be a very special City moment featuring funnyman-impressionist Jon Culshaw on Friday night's Sport Relief extravaganza on BBC TV at around 11.30pm. It's not to be missed, kicking off over a week of events which will help make a huge difference to people around our city.
The City team will wear shirts with special Sport Relief embroidery during Saturday's clash with Stoke, and afterwards you will be able to bid for them online with all proceeds going to Shoot for the Moon. Please keep checking back on mcfc.co.uk to find out when and where they will be available.
It’s not too late to sign up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile right here in Manchester on Sunday. Just go to www.sportrelief.com/manchester and choose to support Shoot for the Moon by joining ‘Team Manchester City’. If you're going along to support family or friends, look out for staff from City In The Community, who will be running a range of fun activities around the route of the run.
Some of the most memorable shots taken by club photographer Sharon Latham will be available to buy as special limited edition prints at the City-Sunderland game; keep checking mcfc.co.uk, as well as the club's social media channels on Facebook and Twitter for more details.
During Giving Week we will be announcing partnerships with two more local charities, and CityTV will feature video clips of City's fundraising work at home and abroad. Keep your eyes peeled for news on how a party of intrepid City staff will be tackling Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, in aid of Shoot for the Moon.
It all culminates at the City-Sunderland game on Saturday, 31 March at the Etihad Stadium. There will be lots of fundraising activities in and around the ground, the players will don special Shoot for the Moon t-shirts while warming up and fans who donated £250 online will see their names around the pitchside LED boards.
