Representatives from Manchester City have today visited the world-famous Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing to formally announce this summer's China Cup fixture with Arsenal.

Patrick Vieira joined his former Gunners team mate Martin Keown as officials from both clubs and the local FA held a joint press conference for the Chinese and other international media held at the British Ambassador's residence.

The Premier League rivals will meet at the venue for the 2008 Olympic Games, on Friday 27 July, the day the 2012 Olympic Games begin in London.

Ian Cafferky, City's Chief Brand and Commerical Officer, commented "We are delighted that we will be playing against Arsenal on Friday 27th July at the Bird's Nest Stadium.

"This is, of course, a hugely significant date for China, the United Kingdom and indeed the world of sport.  Four years ago the Bird's Nest was the iconic centerpiece of the phenomenal Beijing Olympics, and on this evening in 2012 back in the UK, Beijing’s Olympic legacy will be remembered as London 2012 begins.

"It is a fitting occasion for the Bird's Nest to create this unique and exciting moment for football in China by hosting two of the top competitive teams in the most watched football league in the world.

"We have been to China before, but this is our first trip to Beijing, and we have of course the celebrated and successful Chinese footballer, Sun Jihai, as one of our most popular former players. We believe that today marks the a breakthrough first step in developing a deep, meaningful and long lasting relationship with Chinese football, with the Chinese authorities, and with the Chinese football fans."
