Chelsea were always going to offer City stern opposition - and so it proved at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
City, thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri, overturned a one-goal deficit and closed the gap at the top of the Premier League to one point.
With Manchester United not playing again until Monday, City can go two points clear with a win over Stoke at the Britannia this Saturday.
Sergio Aguero’s penalty against Chelsea made it three goals in two games for the Argentine striker and he’s the 7/2 joint-favourite to score first in this game.
He scored twice against Stoke when they visited the Etihad Stadium in late December and he’s 9/2 to repeat the feat and 12/1 to better it with a hat-trick.
Carlos Tevez looked sharp in setting up Samir Nasri’s winner and he’s also 7/2 to score first against Stoke.
The Potters are a tough side to beat at the Britannia Stadium and Newcastle are the only side to beat them by more than one goal in a 3-1 in October. With that in mind, City to win 1-0 is 5/1 and to win 2-1 is 6/1.
On top of the best home record in the Premier League, Roberto Mancini’s team boasts the second best away record and they are the 8/13 favourites to win this match.
With 27 goals in 14 away games, City are averaging slightly under two goals a game. If the team can keep a clean sheet at 11/10, a two-goal win would cover a handicapped City -1 goal at 7/4.
With a penalty being awarded in each of City’s last three games (Swansea, Sporting and Chelsea), a spot-kick to be awarded in this game is 2/1. City have scored both of the penalties they have taken in this run and are 9/2 to score a penalty against Stoke.
