Football legend and Manchester City Football Club Football Development Executive, Patrick Vieira, has praised the skill levels of the youngsters who took part in the Etihad Airways Football Community Week held in Abu Dhabi this week.
The French World Cup winner spent the day offering tips and coaching children from Al Muna and Pearl Primary schools, alongside coaches from Manchester City FC.
“I was very impressed by the core skill levels many of the children had. Clearly football is a big part of life in the UAE and these youngsters will get better and better,” Patrick said.
Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, added: “The Etihad Airways Football Community Week in association with Manchester City Football Club has been a huge success and Etihad Airways is delighted to have increased the fan base of Manchester City in the UAE.
Vieira is a major international football star and a valuable ambassador for our grass roots activites. It is fantastic to have him here in Abu Dhabi and I’m sure the children were excited to see him.
"I hope they have been motivated to further hone their skills so they can become football stars in the future, just like him.”
“It was a great opportunity for the Manchester City coaches to view Emirati football talent and check out the development of football within the region since we began our grass roots initiatives with Manchester City Football Club three years ago.!
Ian Cafferky, Chief Brand & Commercial Officer for Manchester City Football Club, said: “We are delighted to be back in Abu Dhabi to support the Etihad Airways’ grass roots football initiatives.
“The UAE continues to have enormous potential, due to its wealth of young gifted players and passion for the modern game. We are honoured as a club to be able to assist with the development of football within the region by sharing our knowledge, skills and coaching techniques.”
More than 500 children, aged between seven and 14, took part in the Etihad Airways Football Community Week, which was held in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Grand Millennium Hotel, Al Wahda in Abu Dhabi.
