City legends heaped praise on the Blues’ number one keeper as they gathered at the stadium for a former player's dinner.
Joe Hart’s contribution to City’s first Premier League title has not gone unnoticed, especially among his predecessors.
Speaking at the event, Blues legend Bert Trautmann said the club has always had a good reputation for top goalkeepers like Hart.
I think Joe is the best goalkeeper in England at the minute.
Also keen to back England’s number one was 1970s star Joe Corrigan, who spoke of those pivotal moments in the season when a key save ensured City walked away with three points.
Fans will remember games like Wigan away and Arsenal at home as times when Hart did exactly this.
Another former Blues keeper, Alex Williams, said Hart never seems to have a poor game.
I think he’s without doubt one of the best goalkeepers in the world and I think he’ll go on to be one of the best keepers we’ve ever had.
As well as Joe’s undoubted ability, his passion for the club was also alluded to many times. No better example than his reaction at the final whistle on the final day of the season, an image that will remain with fans forever.
His hard work has not gone unnoticed outside of the club. He's picked up the golden glove for the second year in a row, been included in the Premiership team of the season and is England's first choice for this summer's Euro 2012 championship in Poland and Ukraine.
