Heart of the City: Hong Kong Blues

Congratulations to the Hong Kong Blues - recipients of the latest Heart of the City award - celebrating the best places to follow MCFC around the world. Branch Chairman Mike Hill explains more about the club...

"We started the club in 2010 with a hand full of City supporters meeting in a local bar to watch the games. This has grown in the intervening three years to a club of over 30 members, most of which can trace their roots back to the Manchester area, but we also have local Hong Kong members, as well as members from the Philippines, China, Thailand, USA and Korea (South Korea that is). We also have a Facebook page which has over 100 members. We are hoping that the Asia Trophy will persuade many more Hong Kong locals to join our club.

The club has moved around from bar to bar in search of a 'home' but has finally rested at Maya Bar & Lounge in Wanchai, run by two great guys Chris and Neil. For those of you who are not familiar with Wanchai let's just say that it's the part of Hong Kong that never sleeps, which is very useful when we get those late night games!

The bar provides us with a large screen plus two small screens so everyone gets a great view of the game. It's always a challenge to get a big crowd when the games start late on Sunday evening, but for the Saturday games, derbies and cup games we pack out the bar and create one hell of a noise.

If anyone is planning to visit Hong Kong for the Asia Trophy in July please come over to Maya. Chris and Neil will make you most welcome and the supporters club will undoubtedly be congregating there after the games. Also, if anyone visiting Hong Kong needs any local help please feel free to contact me at mikehill992@hotmail.com

See you soon in Hong Kong!"
