All the best odds from Paddy Power ahead of the first game of the season on Sunday...
Manchester City may trail Newcastle in the all-time head-to-head meetings (70-62) but over the last decade the pendulum of success has been swinging very much in the Citizens’s favour.
The defending Premier League champions have won ten straight in all competitions against Newcastle and are unbeaten in 16 games, a run which consists of 14 wins and two draws. With this in mind the 4/6 on a City win at St James Park is worth a chunky single bet and should be in every football accumulator this weekend.
We can’t overlook City in the handicap market either. Manuel Pellegrini’s side -1 goal are priced at 17/10. Given that they have beaten Newcastle by at least two goals in each of the last eight meetings it’s looking like a solid bet. Two of the last four games have finished 4-0 so pondering a bet on City -2 goals at 9/2 certainly won’t be the most foolish thing you do this weekend. Especially when you consider that Newcastle have failed to score in the last four meetings. Manchester City to keep a clean sheet can be backed at 7/5.
Looking at the correct score market over the last eight games City have recorded three wins of 3-1 which is priced at 12/1 here. Of course that result will ruin any clean sheet bets you may have placed so you may fancy backing City to win 2-0 at 15/2 or 4-0 at 25/1. Results which evenly make the last four games between the two clubs.
As for who is going to get the goals your options are possibly a little too plentiful from a betting point of view. The match favourite Sergio Aguero has three goals in four starts against the Magpies and is 4/1 to score first and evens to score anytime in this game. Yaya Toure has four goals in five games in this fixture and is fourth on the list at 13/2 to score first and 15/8 to score anytime.
It doesn’t stop there either. David Silva has two in his last four appearances against Newcastle and Edin Dzeko has scored a goal in each of the last two games. Silva is 9/1 to score first with Dzeko at 5/1.
All the signs point towards an away win in this game and a successful start to their defence for Manchester City. Of course there are no guarantees in Premier League football but if you’re looking to make a profit then put your money on the Citizens to make it eleven straight wins over Newcastle.
