A national tournament between schools representing 20 Premier League clubs will take place at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 20 May.

Christ the King Primary School and Barlow High RC High School won the opportunity to represent Manchester City at the eighth annual Premier League Schools Tournament after beating off fierce competition from other local schools.

Christ the King Primary will enter in the U11 mixed competition while Barlow High will compete in the U13 division for girls. City in the Community are hosting the event in what is set to be another tournament of great football.

Earlier this month, skipper Vincent Kompany took time out of his busy training schedule to undertake the important task of announcing the draw (watch the video here). He also met fellow captain Mikey Taylor, who’ll be leading the Christ the King Primary team. Vincent handed over the captain’s armband to Mikey, 11 and gave some words of encouragement and tips on what to expect when captaining Manchester City.

City in the Community is underpinned by the principle that football is a powerful tool that can uplift communities and empower lives which is why we’re excited to be hosting such a prestigious tournament.

Kompany said “Everyone has shown great teamwork and spirit to get to the final of the Premier League Schools Tournament. Not many people get to walk out on this very special pitch so make sure you enjoy every moment! As you step out, take a deep breath and get ready to play some beautiful football. Good luck to each and every one of you!”

The Premier League Schools Tournament is all about increasing participation in football for boys and girls, and offers schools nationwide the chance to team up with their local Premier League club. All the students participating on the day will receive an authentic Premier League experience - wearing their Premier League club kit, using the Manchester City dressing rooms, and walking out of the tunnel to the Premier League anthem, and even having their matches refereed by Premier League match officials.

The Schools Tournament will feature on a special episode of BBC Match of the Day Kickabout airing on 24 May at 7:30am.
