Several City players, headed by keeper Shay Given, have ended top of the culinary league after beating the opposition 2-1 in a unique cookery showdown, raising more than £60,000 in the process

A dozen footballers took part in an exclusive ‘Premiership Cook Off’ event at Panacea Bar and Restaurant in Alderley Edge, sponsored by Bentley Manchester, to raise funds for local charity the Five Stars Appeal.

Two teams, one skippered by Shaun Wright-Phillips and the other by Burnley’s Carlo Nash, went head-to head in the kitchen and cooked and served three courses plus cocktails to the lucky guests.  After each course diners voted for their favourite dish, which resulted in Shaun’s team bringing home the cup while Carlo’s team  were handed a red card.

The evening was hosted by Robbie Savage and ex-City player Nicky Summerbee and guests enjoyed being served delicious cocktails by ladies’ favourite Roque Santa Cruz while Wigan’s Titus Bramble did an impressive job serving up the culinary delights.

A charity auction was also held and included a Ricky Hatton Training Day, bought by Shaun Wright-Phillips for £4,600 and a Rob Lloyd Racing Day, with Roque Santa Cruz the highest bidder at £2,100.

Once the auction had ended the guests and footballers enjoyed a VIP after-party, with SWP taking the decks as DJ for the night.
