Andy Welsh is delighted with the way City’s Elite Development Squad have begun the season.

“We played great football and thoroughly deserved the win,” he said. “What pleased me was the way we coped with the pressure they put us under and took our chances when they came.”

Welsh felt keeper Stuart Taylor was the outstanding performer at The Hawthorns , though there were several  candidates on the night.

“He was a great influence on what was a young defence and he organised them and kept talking throughout.

“I thought Ben Mee was terrific, too, but he’s been excellent for the last three or four games. He did well with the senior side last week and I think he’s had a great start to the season.

“West Brom had five of the players that started in the Carling Cup game against our senior side last week, so to go there and win by a couple of games bodes really well for the remainder of the campaign.

“We’ve got Blackpool at home next Tuesday and we’ll have a very young team out because a lot of the lads will be away on international duty. It should be a great night and we’ll be looking to keep our run going.”
