Friday’s Barclays u21 Premier League match between City and Norwich City was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
After extensive deliberation and several pitch inspections over the last 24 hours, it was hoped that the match could go ahead at the Regional Athletics Stadium but after the team’s warmed up, it was deemed that the pitch was unplayable.
Staff from City and Norwich were joined on the pitch by match officials to discuss whether the game could go ahead but it was decided that the flanks of the field could have potentially endangered the safety of the players.
Surface ice on the pitch had melted away since Thursday's inspection but below freezing temperatures in Manchester overnight ultimately put pay to the encounter.
A new date for the visit of the Canaries will be decided in due course – we will let you know first here on mcfc.co.uk.
Attilio Lombardo’s side are due to be in action next on 1 February 2013 at Hyde FC for the visit of Bolton Wanderers at 19:00.
Our sincerest apologies to all those who made the effort to come down to the Regional Athletics Stadium.
For the record, the City XI named by Attilio Lombardo was:
Johansen, Facey, Plummer, Evans, Leigh, Kennedy, Rusnak, Huws, Guidetti, Suarez, Cole.
Subs: Marin, Gunn, Rusnak, Mancini, Henshall.
