Chief Executive Officer of the Manchester FA, Colin Bridgford has confirmed that there will be no Manchester Senior Cup final this season.
That means City will not play their remaining fixtures against Bury and Manchester United.
The statement reads:
On behalf of Manchester County FA, I can confirm that season 2012/13 will not be concluded with a Senior Cup Final.
The Competitions Committee have taken the decision following the inability for clubs to agree and fulfill their remaining fixtures.
This couple with an end of season fixture congestion and also other Club commitments made the possibility of concluding the League fixtures impossible to achieve.
The Competitions Committee have ruled that Manchester United will retain the Manchester Senior Cup for Season 2012/13.
The decision was made with reference to Manchester United’s completion of all their home fixtures.
Manchester United haul of twelve points left them three points clear of Bolton Wanderers and six points clear of Manchester City.
Bolton Wanderers will acclaim recognition as Runners Up for season 2012/13 again courtesy of the completion of fixtures and their position in the league table. Medals will be awarded to both teams.
Whilst as a County FA we are disappointed that we have been unable to fulfil one of the highlights of our season, we respect equally, the disappointment of this decision for those who follow the respective clubs.
I as CEO would like to place on record my thanks to all involved in trying to resolve the end of season position but equally for all their support throughout Season 2013/14.
It is clear to me as CEO that changes have to be made to assist all involved in such a prestigious competition that this unfortunate position does not arise again.
Over the forthcoming weeks, I will be meeting the above Clubs representatives to review the structures and formats and the provisions for season 2013/14.
In July 2013, Manchester County FA will confirm and announce the competition format and structure for season 2013/14.
I would like to place on record my personal thanks to all the Clubs (Manchester United, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Oldham, Bury, Stockport County) who have entered the Manchester Senior Cup this season.
