City Elite Development Squad midfielder Denis Suarez played a starring role in Spain u20s' 1-0 win over Ghana in Istanbul.

The 19-year old's delightful 13th minute assist for Real Madrid's Jese helped La Roja become the first team in the competition to qualify for the Round of 16.

Suarez picked up the ball and beat his Ghanaian marker before rolling into the path of his teammate for the simplest of tap-ins, capping a pleasing night's work for City's promising youngster.

Spain now boast a 100% record after their first two games, having already dispatched USA 4-1 in their opening match.

It was Denis's first start in the tournament after he missed out on the USA win and he soon made his mark with a wonderful first-half performance where he dictated the tempo of play for large periods from his role behind the main striker.

After setting up the night's only goal, Denis was clearly instructed to sit deeper in the second half to help keep possession from a Ghana side growing in confidence.

The Black Stars had a couple of chances to level, however, a tense second 45 minutes brought no goals and Spain secured their position at the top of Group A, qualifying them for the Round of 16 with a game to spare.

Suarez played all but the last four minutes of the game.

Spain face France in their final group game on Thursday night - we'll let you know if Denis plays a part here on mcfc.co.uk.
