West Brom v EDS: Match preview

City EDS travel to West Brom on Sunday, hoping to stretch their unbeaten run to five games.

The Blues have only lost once in all competitions since October but currently lie in the bottom half of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table, although they do have games in hand over the majority of teams in the division.

Following their qualification to the knock-out stages of the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday, Patrick Vieira’s side should be in good spirits going into this game in the West Midlands.

Of the youngsters who featured in the draw in Munich, Shay FaceyGeorge GlendonSinan Bytyqi, Jason Denayer and Jose Angel Pozo could make an appearance at the Hawthorns.

With the crucial under-19s game with Bayern looming and to ensure that he had a full-strength squad at his disposal for the trip to Germany, Vieira opted to field a more experienced side for last week’s 4-1 win over Middlesbrough.

Marcos Lopes and Dedryck Boyata returned to action, whilst Jordi Hiwula, in fine goalscoring form, also made an appearance from the bench. Devante Cole was an unused substitute.

John Guidetti will also be hoping to keep his place in the starting line-up, after finding the net in only his second appearance so far this season. After a lengthy lay-off, the Swede will be looking to put his injury worries behind him now and hopefully show off his talents to first-team boss, Manuel Pellegrini.

Sunday’s fixture is the first of two consecutive games against the Baggies, as the Blues face a home tie against West Brom in the next round of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Cup.

The Midlands outfit go into this game on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Southampton. Prior to that however, the Baggies enjoyed a six-game winning streak so City will have to be on their guard if they are to take all three points.

Kick-off is at 2pm at the Hawthorns (B71 4LF). We’ll have goal updates on Twitter and a full match report on mcfc.co.uk.
