Boyata still on cloud nine

Dedryck Boyata admits he hasn’t quite come down from scoring his first goal for the Blues.
The highly-rated Belgian defender opened his account against FC Timisoara last month and is hoping it won’t be too long before he adds to his tally again.
“That was a dream day for me,” he smiled. “I’ll always remember scoring my first goal for the club and so playing any European football is going to feel special for me.
“To play for the first team is fantastic but to score a goal was incredible and if I can get more of the same, believe me, I will!
“I’m looking forward to the Salzburg game, though I don’t know if I’ll be playing as yet, but it’s great to be included in the squad to travel to Austria.”
Boyata believes City must travel home with something in the bag having been drawn in a competitive group. With tough-looking trips to Lech Poznan and Juventus still to come, avoiding defeat at Salzburg, he believes, is a must.
“With the format now changing from knock-out to the group stages, it’s important we pick something up on our travels, especially with this being our opening game,” he said.
“I don’t know that much about Austrian football but I know they are a decent side.
We’ll prepare as we would for a Premier League game, though it’s possible the manager may make changes for our European ties and obviously I’d love to play some part in the game
With Boyata’s unflappable manner and relaxed, yet highly effective style of defending, the teenager is already being tipped for a bright future, though he isn’t the sort to start dwelling on the praise that has been liberally heaped on his shoulders.
“It’s nice when people say positive things about you but I won’t get carried away,” he smiled. “I’ve not been playing in the team for that long and I know I’m really just starting out and have still got a lot to learn.
“But things have gone really well so far and I’m enjoying every minute of it.”
