Juventus are back in the groove for Thursday's Europa League trip to the City of Manchester Stadium with a morale-boosting 4-2 victory over Cagliari.
Milos Krasic sent a warning signal to Roberto Mancini's redoubtable back four by snapping up a hat-trick to help lift Juve into ninth place in the table after their lukewarm start to the season.
The Serbian winger struck after 13, 34 and 70 minutes, and another goal from team-mate Leonardo Bunucci at the Stadio Olimpico ensured a first home League win of the campaign for City's group rivals.
Salzburg reminded their Austrian Bundesliga rivals of their strength at home - despite the Blues' win in their Europa League opener - by beating second-placed Ried 1-0 with a goal from former Falkirk striker Roman Wallner.
Ried had won their previous two matches but could not resist the Red Bulls, who now sit handily in seventh place in the table with two matches in hand, ready to charge in defence of their champions' crown.
Lech Poznan, who will host the Austrians on Thursday, lost 2-1 at Legia Warsaw and slipped to 11th place in the Ekstraklasa, with eight points to make up on leaders Jagiellonia Bialystock if they are to keep their title.
