Euro watch: Aris bounce back on cue

Aris Thessaloniki ended their barren run in style at Greek giants AEK - and not a moment too soon with the first leg of their Europa League tie against City just around the corner.

Popular Brazilian right-back Darcy Nesto did what it says on the tin and netted twice in Athens for the 2-1 victory that brought Aris a welcome first win in five Super League matches.

Nesto is a free-kick specialist but scored both from the edge of the area in open play, hoisting his team to sixth in the table as they prepare to face the Blues in next Tuesday's home leg of the Round of 32 clash.

If City complete a win in the return leg on February 24, Roberto Mancini's men will have to tackle either Dynamo Kyiv or Istanbul outfit Besiktas, who were held 1-1 by visitors Karabukspor at the weekend.

Besiktas coach Bernd Schuster, banished from the dug-out the previous week for bad language, was forced to watch from the stands as his side, fifth in the table, equalised courtesy of an own goal.

Meanwhile, Dynamo drew 2-2 with Zestafoni before winning a penalty shoot-out 5-4 with their friendly opponents in Marbella.
