City’s Ivorian trio begin their bid for Africa Cup of Nations glory on Tuesday afternoon as The Elephants take on unfancied Togo at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg.

Yaya and Kolo Toure plus Abdul Razak could line up against former City striker and Togolese skipper Emmanuel Adebayor in the opening Group D fixture, with the Ivory Coast hoping to go one better than their shock final defeat against Zambia last year.

Tunisia and Algeria, both more than capable of sustaining a strong challenge to progress from the group themselves make up the group quartet, but Ivory Coast will expect to qualify for the knock-out stages with players such as Didier Drogba and Gervinho to call upon as well as the Blues’ talented stars.

Kolo Toure, a veteran of six ACONs, has dismissed The Elephants’ tag as favourites, instead suggesting Ghana will be the team to beat in this year’s competition.

"I think it is the Black Stars who head the list," he said.

Look at the Egyptians. They don't have a team of superstars but they won three consecutive titles in this competition so it could happen again

...Kolo Toure...

"Although we beat Egypt 4-2, I think we still have some serious problems, especially in defence. We have to correct our lapses and play very deep right from the defence to stop the opposition from getting too close.

"We also need to stop conceding dangerous corner kicks and throw-ins and then engage the midfield to play high and hard and form the first defensive line.

"In official competitions there are mistakes you mustn't make or you will pay for it dearly. I'm not too satisfied with our performances so far but since we have more time to fine tune, I hope we'll be able to correct that."

Ivory Coast v Togo kicks off at 3pm GMT on 22 January. They will face Tunisia on 26 January and Algeria on 30 January before the knock-out phase begins.
