On International Women’s Day 2016, Manchester City Women are delighted to announce the appointment of Sylvia Gore MBE as Club Ambassador.

A legend in the game, Gore made history when she became the first female player to score for England, and counts Manchester Corinthians amongst the clubs she has played for.

She also earned the nickname 'the Denis Law of women's football' having netted 134 goals in one season, and has been involved in the promotion of the sport for sixty years.

Gore’s role will see her heading out into the community to meet with aspiring female footballers to share her wealth of experience of playing in the game.

She believes City are leading the way and driving the game to the next level. Impressed with a visit to the Academy Stadium last year, she knew instantly she wanted to become part of the Club's venture.

"I'm really excited about becoming MCWFC ambassador and working with the Club to inspire more girls to play football.

"The facilities, the staff and the back-up the players have here is so impressive. It's tremendous - and very different from the time when I played, young girls now have a real pathway."

With interest in the game is at its peak following England's World Cup success, Gore feels now is the time to capitalise and hopes her experience will help City to achieve their ambitions of increasing attendances and participation.

"It's delighted me so to see how the game is today," she added. "It's taken so long but it's been brilliant over the past few years and it's spiralled.

"Manchester City Women have a lot to look forward to this season in the league campaign as well as the UEFA Women’s Champions League. It’s great to be a part of that."
