City's Elite Development squad suffered their first league defeat of the campaign as a strong Wigan Athletic beat Andy Welsh's side 2-0 at Robin's Park.
City, taking on a Latics side that included record signing Mauro Boselli and Victor Moses, had the first chance of the night after just five minutes, but Scott Kay fired over.
Three minutes later, Wigan punished the Blues when Boselli showed his class by scoring the opening goal after a floated left-wing cross from Redmond beat David González’s and the Argentine striker calmly nodded home at the back-post.
City responded well and dominated for the next half hour and had a goal ruled out on 34 minutes as well as missing good chances through John Guidetti, Chris Chantler and Ahmed Benali before the break, but couldn't find the equaliser.
Wigan soaked up the pressure and added a second through Callum McManaman on 52 minutes with a shot that defelected past Gonzalez off a City player to give the Blues a mountain to climb and despite plenty effort, they just couldn't find a way back into the game.
