Two Harry Bunn goals preserved City Under-18s’ unbeaten start to the season in the Academy Manchester derby at Platt Lane this morning.
The young Blues led as early as the third minute but eventually had to come from behind in a game that eventually finished 2-2 -City's third consecutive draw by that scoreline!.
On a deceptively cold morning at Platt Lane City came out of the blocks with confidence and seemed to catch the visitors cold with a goal on three minutes.
Alex Henshall produced some fine skills on the wing and his ball in was tucked home by the in-form Bunn who finished with a clinical low drive into the into the bottom right-hand corner.
For the next 20 minutes both sides were restricted to shooting mainly from distance. When City did threaten it was on the break, but the Blues were unable to add to their lead.
United gradually got on top and eventually levelled when Pogba tapped into an empty net from two yards out not long before the break and the Reds went ahead not long after the re-start when Cofie rifled home a 20-yard strike.
City responded by stepping up their game and controlling the remainder of the game and their efforts were rewarded on 80 minutes when Bunn equalised with a superb solo effort.
The prolific striker picked up the ball wide on the right and ran through past two defenders before firing the ball into the top corner.
City then searched for a late winner but were kept at bay by the Reds’ keeper who made a couple of fine stops to earn his side a draw that, overall, was just about the right result.
