Two goals from Jordy Hiwula helped City’s Under 18s to a confident victory over Ipswich Town in the Barclays Premier Academy League.
For the first 20 minutes the Blues struggled to get into the game at Platt Lane, with 17-year-old Paul Clowes having a penalty saved after Adam Drury was fouled.
Both sides struggled to find their cutting edge to take the lead and the score remained goal-less at half time, despite City dominating possession.
The young Blues continued to press after the break and their determination eventually reaped rewards, with 16-year-old Jordy Hiwule giving City the lead.
The visitors responded with an equaliser moments later before George King made it two. City took command of the game and thoroughly deserved their victory, with Hiwula sealing the win with the third goal.
While the Blues’ triumph made it two wins in a row, keeping up their 100 per cent record in the League, Head of Academy Mark Allen remained emphasised it was still early days but admitted he was delighted with the performance.
“It’s definitely a pleasing start,” Allen said. “It’s still very much early doors but it’s always good to get off to a great start. It’s very satisfying that we’ve registered two wins. We’ve got the momentum behind us now so hopefully we can use that and really push on throughout the season.”
