With former England International Richard Wright making his debut for City EDS things couldn't have got off to a worse start with the Blues behind after just 45 seconds!

John Gorman put the hosts ahead after latching on to a ricochet leaving Wright with little chance.

Wolves threatened to run away with the game but Wright tipped over a header from a close range on ten minutes to keep his team in contention.

The Blues, fielding a young side, gradually worked their way into the game and Alex Henshall, Luca Scapuzzi and Marco Lopes all went close before the break.

City started brightly after the re-start with Lopes firing just over the bar on the hour - but two minutes later, the Blues were level when Lopes showed great technique to play through Scapuzzi who tucked the ball home with aplomb.

The same pair both went close to giving Atillio Lomardo's side the lead as the game wore on, but  

the visitors were dealt a sucker punch when Liam McAlinden broke free of the City defence and scored in the 87th minute.

There was sill time for more drama in injury time when sub Albert Rusnak - playing his first game in three months after a foot injury - was brought down in the box after some neat footwork to earn a penalty.

Rusnak stepped up himself to take the penalty but Wolves stopper Cotman was equal to his effort and the home side clung on for a narrow win.

Richard Wright said after the game: “I was really impressed with the character of the young EDS lads and the performance they put in on the night, were all down in the dressing room as we thought we should have got more out of the game, but that's how it goes sometimes.”
