Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Friday 22 August 2008
Vincent Kompany signed for City from Hamburg SV five years ago today.
Originally fielded as a defensive midfielder by Mark Hughes, it was always suggested that the Belgian would eventually revert to centre-back.
Just 22-years old when he signed, Vincent had represented his country 20 times and appeared at under-17, under-18 and under-21 level for his country at that stage.
He has since gone on to lift the FA Cup and the Premier League trophy in five glorious years as a Blue and is already one of the most popular captains the club has ever had.

Alan Ball’s final act as City manager was to sign Arsenal reserve striker Paul Dickov for £500,000. ‘Dicky’ never really broke into the Gunners’ first team but he soon becomes popular with the City fans thanks to his phenomenal work rate and never say die attitude. What he lacked in height, he made up with heart.
He moved to Leicester in 2002 after failing to hold down a first-team spot under Kevin Keegan and later moved to Blackburn Rovers, returning to City in 2006.
