Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Thursday 8th August 1985
City’s tour of Ireland kicked off with a comfortable 4-1 win over League of Ireland side Waterford. Though the part-timers managed to get to half-time intact, goals from Scottish trio Gordon Smith (2), Derek Parlane and Jim Tolmie saw Billy McNeill’s side coast home. The Blues drew with Drogheda 2-2 two days later and completed the tour with a 5-1 win over Finn Harps.
Monday 8th August 2011
Joe Hart signed a new five-year contract with City. The former Shrewsbury keeper successfully fended off the challenge of Shay Given to earn the No.1 jersey and his form during the record-breaking 2010/11 campaign saw the club reward him with a deal that will last until 2016.
