Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Saturday 18 August 1962
City make their worst start to a season ever by losing 8-1 to Wolves at Molineux despite having the legendary Bert Trautmann in goal.
In what will be manager Les McDowall’s last season in charge, even City’s goal is scored by a Wolves player on a truly miserable day for the traveling Blues.
Wednesday 18 August 2004
City’s first Academy graduate Shaun Wright-Phillips makes his senior debut for England in a friendly against the Ukraine.
He makes a significant impact from the bench scoring a goal which rounds off a 3-0 win. Wright-Phillips has since won 36 caps for England, scoring six goals as well as featuring at the 2010 World Cup.
