Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Tuesday 30 August 1966
Just six days after beating Liverpool 2-1 at Maine Road, the Blues travel to Anfield for the return game against Bill Shankly’s side. The Blues, fresh from promotion, go into the game a point behind leaders Burnley, but despite goals from Matt Gray and Jimmy Murray, the Reds win 3-2 in front of a 51,645 crowd.
Monday 30 August 2004
Steve McManaman signs for City on a free transfer. McManaman, like former Liverpool team-mate Robbie Fowler before him, he was nearing the end of his career when he put pen to paper, with age and injuries taking their toll. His stay with the Blues, lasting some 18 months, was less than spectacular and he was released by then-manager Stuart Pearce.

Mark Hughes’ City maintains a 100% start to the season with a 1-0 win at Portsmouth. Emmanuel Adebayor scores the only goal of the game on 30 minutes to make it four wins on the bounce for the rejuvenated Blues. Micah Richards sees a goal disallowed for offside just before the break and Pompey’s David Nugent misses a sitter with just a few minutes remaining.
