Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.

Monday 30th July 1874

Legendary Welsh winger Billy Meredith is born in the small North Wales village of Chirk.

Meredith will go on to become one of the biggest stars of the day some 20 years later when he signs for City, though he initially insists on riding his bike from Chirk to train and play and train for the Blues!

Meredith stays with City from 1894 to 1906 before a bribery scandal saw him and several other top players effectively sacked by the Blues.

Many defected to Manchester United, helping the Reds to several trophies as City struggled to recover from losing so many quality players.

Meredith returned in 1921 and stayed with City until 1924, eventually retiring having played 393 times for the Blues in total, scoring 151 goals.
